It's about time I posted some things about our trip to Arizona. Before I get to that, here's a bit of what has been happening here at home...
Preston is on a mine tour. He's spending a whole week with his geology class traveling to different mines between Montana, Idaho and Eastern Washington. He seems to be having a great time and learning a lot. The only real drawback is that he was gone for his birthday. I can't believe he's 22 already! We will celebrate this weekend when he gets home.
Keaton got hired to work in the graphic art department for the CUB at WSU. This is the kind of job he's been waiting for and he's super excited about it. Unfortunately he will have to give up his job in the Foundation IT dept, which has been a really great job for him. There will possibly be opportunities for him to hire back on during the summers. On the funny side, Tom asked him to rototill up the swimming pool spot in the back yard, which is a big circle shape. Tom and I walked out there while he was doing it, and he had rototilled a giant peace sign in it's place. He's our hippy-child. Tom said "Leave it to that kid to make artwork out of yard work!"
Winston broke his wrist this past week at school. He was running his laps backward in P.E. class and tripped over a baseball bat. He fell back and slammed his arm down on the gym floor. It didn't swell or discolor, so I thought he just sprained it. He kept complaining that it hurt really bad, so finally I took him to the Doc. Sure enough, he had a Torus Fracture just below the wrist. The bone hadn't separated, so they were able to put a soft-cast on it. He will probably have to wear it for about 3 to 4 weeks. He's getting as much mileage as he can out of that cast, both at school and at home. It's kind of like a trophy for him. Boys, gotta love em.
Okay, enough of that. Here's some pictures from our spring break trip...
Winston enjoyed playing around the pool at Mark and Carrie's house. I say 'playing around' the pool, because even though it's nice and warm there, it hadn't been warm enough to make the water comfortable for swimming. It was nice to dip our feet in, though!

We went to the Superstition Mountains and did some hiking & visited an old mining town.
It was a fun hike - well worth it to get to the top of the trail. The day was perfect for hiking, too. Not too hot, and just a little breeze.

We also got to enjoy getting to see and visit with Carrie's parents, Chuck and Nancy. It was a great time, and we surely appreciate the hospitality Mark and Carrie shared with us during our visit.
(Even despite Tom's unfortunate accident involving the toilet. I'll let your imagination try to figure that one out! Ha-ha!)

On the way back home we visited the Grand Canyon!
Now, I've seen some pretty impressive canyons, having grown up around the Snake River, but this one takes the cake!

We also were able to drive through Zion National Park.

Part of the park is closed off to traffic, so we took the tour bus ride through. Tom and I definitely want to go back. There are a lot of places to hike and beautiful picture opportunities. We got there kind of late in the day. It would be nice to go and spend at least a whole day there.
The rest of the ride home was pretty uneventful.
