Out of the loop and settling in for the big finish.

We've been a bit out of the loop lately.  Our internet time was used up a week early, so I haven't been keeping up on things.  We also have two more weeks of school left (and work for me).  With all the extra hours I've been working, I'm sure glad to have a 3-day weekend.  Whew!  So Winston and I are settling in for the next two weeks and then we'll be done for the school year - Yay!  Bring on the summer vacation!

Today Tom helped me put in an asparagus bed.

It turned out really nice, and will get all of the drain water from the greenhouse.

Our garden took a bit of a hit last week.  After having nice warm days, which kicked everything off so well, we had a couple of nights that were below freezing.  The first night Tom got everything covered except for about three feet of the corn.  The next night nipped the tips of all of the corn.  The peas, cabbage and squash didn't seem to mind it.  Our pumpkin patch was decimated - so we had to re-plant the pumpkins.  I'm hoping that will be the end of the freezes!

Hope is growing up!  Her coat is looking so pretty, too!

She pops in during the evenings and visits us while we eat dinner on the deck.  She's been nibbling the burning bush away, though.  I guess she thinks if we're eating, she should be too.

She likes to hang out with Winston when he's playing outside.  She also likes to run around the yard with the dogs.  She'll even go up to Daisy and nudge her with her nose to get Daisy to start running.  If Daisy doesn't respond to the nose, she'll poke Daisy with her hoof.  I just hope she stays gentle with that hoof!

Keaton has been helping her with her garden, so she sent it home with him.  It's a tree peony and it is gorgeous!

Mom's Day and Garden Update...

Keaton got up early and made me waffles for my Mother's Day breakfast.  They were really good - thank you Keaton, you are so sweet!

The garden is all planted now.  As you can see, we have a lot of grass coming up where it shouldn't.  I forsee some weeding in my future.

Things are really going to town in the greenhouse.  Not quite out of hand yet.  I'll have to figure out how to arrange things as they get bigger.  These babys are staying in the hot-house!

My meditation spot near the pond.  Henry and his 'harem' as Tom calls them are doing quite swimmingly.  Winston procured some frogs and a baby toad from our good friend Jackie Ryan last week.  We let them go near the pond, hoping they'd take up residence there.  Jackie said she'd try to wrangle a baby turtle or two for us.  Winston got really excited about that!

The raspberries are starting to take off, too!  Wish Katlyne could come and help us pick the berries this year.  We're hoping the new aisles will make it easier.

The backyard is becoming a park.  Tom's starting to complain about having to mow it all the time - like twice a week!  That's quite a thing since he loves to mow the yard - it's his favorite pasttime!

And the Lilacs are blooming!

This one's for you, Rachael.  Just in case you're missing this guy.

Yes, I know.

I had to do it.

But the hair will grow back before you see him again.

Run For Your Life!

Keaton ran in a relay marathon a couple of weeks ago.

He got to run in just about every weather condition you can imagine...

hot sun

cool sun

rain

snow

hail

...all in one day.

Good job, Keaton.  We knew you could do it!

On the other hand, this is what I found on my camera the other day...

Somebody was being funny and taking 'sleeping' pictures of his brother.

What's up with the animals?

Hope and Daisy are best buds.

They play together all the time.

Everytime we try to get it on video, they stop playing.

One of these days we'll catch them!

We've been enjoying the evenings sitting by our little pond.

Tom moved the swing over near it, and it's so relaxing.

It's my 'ahhhhhh' place.

Plus, Henry the fish has new friends now. 

It was funny when we put them in the pond, Henry went right over to them and they've all been following each other around the pond ever since.  Sometimes Henry leads and all the little fishies are following him.  Sometimes he follows them.  It's kind of fun to watch.  Haven't got names for the other fishies yet.

Meanwhile in the greenhouse... 

I got the larger peppers and the melons repotted to larger pots.

Tomatos are up - both Beef Master and Grape Tomatos

And the English Cucumbers are peaking out.

As far as Tom's 'crazy corn' goes, this was it last week.

This is it now.

Yup - the garden is pretty much in.
