Winston's "How much longer" was getting kind of annoying, especially since it started about a half-hour into a 7-hour trip.
He did pretty good, though, for his first time flying.

Makaha Beach
Heaven on earth.
This was my most favorite beach that we went to on our vacation.
The water was warm, the waves were just big enough to have fun in. This is the beach where we saw the baby stingrays.

I don't do swimsuit issues on any given day.

Makaha beach was perfect for it.
We saw some surfers catching some waves there too - just a little farther out.
The sand was sooooo soft - like moon sand.
The boys had fun building fortresses and trying to keep them from getting wiped out by the waves.

They were playing ukeleles and singing. It was awesome.
Pickup trucks are a common vehicle for the locals. We often saw trucks loaded up with hawaiians in the back, just cruisin' down the highway.

These birds can nest really high up in the trees. We woke one morning to find a momma and her babies up in the branches next to our lanai. They were up higher than we were. I was amazed!

Israel Ka'ano'i Kamakawiwo'ole
We just happened across his statue in Makaha, just off the road at a community center. We love his music, and to me his voice is the voice of the islands. He was from Makaha and sang about it in some of his songs.
This picture has a story behind it, but I'm not going to tell it.
It will remain mine and Tom's little secret.
We passed this store every day we were in Makaha. I am just preserving it for Tom to remember.
As for the reported tropical storm/hurricane that was supposed to hit while we were there... we didn't see it. We saw a little bit of lightning and some rain, but that was it. When we had to leave to go to Kauai, we had extra food and water bottles left over, so we donated it to the neighbors. They especially seemed to like the sunchips!
We absolutely loved staying in Makaha and would definitely do it again.
Beautiful, beautiful place.
We saw rainbows almost every day.
