Blue Moon

One thing I love about where we live is that we have some of the most spectacular moon-rises and sunsets.  There's something about the wheatfields, and the wavy horizon that make things look much bigger than they really are.  Even after a harvest, the fields just seem to retain that rich golden hue that add contrast to the blue sky at dusk.

My wild child, who was convinced that he could walk his bike up that BIG back hill, and then ride it back down.  Silly kid found out that it's too steep for his brakes, so his feet got a lot of drag time until he decided it would be safer to just walk back down.

We enjoyed a very fun Labor Day weekend.  Our good high school friends, Kim & Rob Vowell - with son Robyn & girlfriend Kaitlin, and Jim Scott with his son Nate, came to stay with us.  It was great fun reminscing on times past.  Kim and Jim and I actually grew up together from about the 4th grade.  So there were lots of memories shared from WAY back when!  Tom and Rob moved to Halfway our junior year of high school and we all graduated together almost 30 years ago.  Wow!

There was a lot going on.  Besides good food and visiting we also played some croquet, volleyball and the kids did some swimming.

And we'll not forget the fireworks display that Jim put on with it's 'unexpected' ending.  (One of the 'rockets' didn't go off in the air.  It exploded on the ground in a great spray of light and cinders!  Nobody was hurt but Jim had the closest view!  To which he exclaimed "That was awesome, man!")

There was also a lot of Settler's of Catan being played.  I even played a couple of games, much to my husband's surprise.  I almost won one of the games - but Kim beat me to it, Drats!

So with summer officially coming to a close (sniff-sniff), we are enjoying the subtle signs of autumn begining to show.  That season has it's own beauties here too.
